Olga Skeete was born and raised in Whitney Pier. When she was twelve, her cousin, Fitz Daniel Leacock offered to give her piano lessons. Olga was hooked right away. Her first performance was at a variety concert at the Menelik Hall in the early 40s; she has been performing ever since. “I just love playing everything from popular songs and spirituals to jazz.” Her first experience with a band was with Berry and the Flames. Now she plays with the Inspirational Singers, the Memory Lane Singers, the Club 55 Rhythm Band, various church groups, the Legionnaire’s Singers and even for playtime at the Whitney Pier Day Care Centre. Olga has four and many gran and great-grand children. She lives with her husband, Lemuel, on Laurier Street.
